Children naturally love art, for them it's the perfect way to express themselves, receive praise and a sense of achievement from the artwork they produce and simply a way to enjoy getting messy without being told off! Whatever it is, art and creativity is an important part of a child's development and can even help them when learning other vital life skills.
Taking all of this into account, you can imagine how impressed we were to hear that Brisbane based company, Creative Kids are now offering daily, free of charge workshops and classes for children.
Creative Kids have been running mobile art classes in and around Brisbane since 2012 and are so excited to now have their very own studio at 93 Boundary Street, in the heart of Brisbane's West End, where a variety of different workshops and creative classes will be run on a daily basis.
WHEN? The studio will be open 7 days per week and will have a different activity on offer per day, some taking place in the morning and others during the afternoon, allowing busy parents to find time to come along and get messy and creative with their little ones.
WHO? The company owner, Liz Austin-Glen has several years experience in Early Childhood, Primary, Secondary and Adult Arts Education and has worked with not-for-profit arts organisations for several years. Her main aim? To give Brisbane kids a new place to play, with stimulating, enjoyable activities– clay modelling, painting, and print making among the offerings and most importantly of all, for kids to be able to have fun and be creative.
Pre-school Art Classes run on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings from 9.30am to 11.30am, offering younger students the choice and freedom to create whatever they want through the use of play. There's no need to book as sessions operate on a walk in basis.
There is also an All Ages Workshop which runs on Thursdays from 3.30pm to 5.30pm and on Saturdays and Sundays from 9.30am to 3.30pm. These classes tend to have more of a focus on a particular art medium or activity and again are operated on a walk in basis so no need to book!
The company also offers Rhyme Time Classes for ages 0 and up running on a Tuesday and Thursday from 9.30am to 11.30am, what better way to get together with other mums and their bubs and enjoy a morning of singing, playing and story telling.
The studio will also be open everyday throughout the school holidays offering a variety of different classes and workshops, for more information on class times and themes, make sure to check out the Creative Kids Facebook Page or head over to their website.
