Rocks Riverside Park

by reread (follow)
Since moving back to Brisbane last year, we have tried out as many new parks as we can, and Rocks Riverside Park is by far the best we've been to yet. It's located at Seventeen Miles Rocks and is easily accessible from the motorway.

There's parking a'plenty, even on weekends, and the park itself is huge! Right by the river, it's in a really beautiful location, and according to 'Brisbane City Council', it's Brissy's biggest riverside park.

There's heaps of green space to lay out a picnic rug or set up a party tent, and on weekends there are lots of these about. There are four booking sites - The Entrance, The Green, The River and the Crusher Pavilion (currently closed for maintenance as at May 2017).

This park is fantastic for all ages. My two-and-bit year old is enamored with the water-play area. Most visits we don't get past the 'splashy creek'. If your kid/s are water babes - best bring a spare pair of clothes, or their togs! There's hundreds of meters of paths for bikes and scooters. There is flat areas and also some really cool landscaped hills to scoot up and down.

An enormous wooden fort/castle is the centrepiece of the park, with a lovely big fig right next to it providing shade. The fig is surrounded by wooden decking and makes for lovely place to sit and watch kids in the water-play area and also the fort/castle.

For bigger (braver) kids there is a very large climbing net, that is sphincter-twitchingly high - no cotton-wool kids on that thing!

And lastly for the kids who just like tooling around and collecting things, or looking at flowers, there's a huge garden and also a 'cement pit'. The garden has fruit and vegetables in it and the entire park has been landscaped. There are a lot of Australian natives planted throughout, and the grevillea flowers are just gorgeous for little nature-lovers, with bees and birds sipping the nectar constantly.

The cement pit is home to a huge 'cog thing', which impressed my toddler no end! The kids can run to the top of the pit that is enclosed by a huge retaining wall. They can find coral and shells, as the site is actually and old cement factory and coral/sand/etc, was used to make the cement.

Rocks Riverside Park - amazing park right on the river Montage

The park has toilets, showers, water drinking fountains, free wifi and plenty of shade. If you are looking for a 'new' park to take your kids to next, you need to give this park a go!
