Family fun less than an hour from Brisbane's north
Over the weekend, my family went to Aussie World. I want to preface this by saying, I grew up in Brisbane. But I have never been to Aussie World, despite driving past it approximately 7000 times in my life. Well let me tell you, that has been a mistake. Because Aussie World is so much fun and PERFECT for the age group that we took.

Our family consists of myself, my husband and our two children aged 1 and nearly 4. We also went with my brother and his wife and their two children aged 8 and nearly 6. All the kids had an absolute blast and there was something, actually lots of somethings, for all of them to enjoy. It actually reminded me a lot of the Ekka, but without the huge crowds, smell of cow manure and having to pay for each ride we went on.
Aussie World is located about an hours drive north of Brisbane, about 1km north of Caloundra, along the Bruce Highway. You have probably driven past it on your way to the Sunshine Coast and noticed the iconic Banana Bender pub and wondered about it. It is well worth a day trip, especially if you have children aged between 1-15 years.
With over 30 rides and attractions, I was blown away with how many rides my three year old enjoyed. There was a mini coaster, trains, bumper cars, go karts, ferris wheel and lots of rides that spun and shot into the air at various speeds and heights. He went on most of them and really enjoyed himself.
The bigger kids also had rides more age appropriate, although they also loved the smaller ones. There were a few thrill rides, and adults could go on most rides with their kids too. You can find out about all the rides here.
As well as rides, there are some attractions, like a house of mirrors, a small sideshow alley with games to play and some events happening year round.
Food wise, you can visit the iconic Banana Bender pub, or there are cafes with actually really nice food. Because of COVID guidelines, you order food via an app and then pick it up when its ready, which is great for impatient kids. There were plenty of places to sit in the shade and enjoy your food. Although outside snacks are not allowed, we took some in for the kids too.
The staff at Aussie World were so friendly and welcoming and they were following very strict COVID safe guidelines. You have to pre book your tickets online before going. Everyone had to sanitise their hands before rides and all rides were sanitised and cleaned between use. We went on a Sunday and even though this was happening, the line ups were absolutely fine, the longest we waited was about 15 minutes for the bumper cars.
If you are going in the warmer months, there is a small but fun water splash area and a log ride too, so be sure to bring togs. We also took our double pram and it was really easy to get around and park at rides.
Aussie World was one of the best, drama free outings we have had with our kids in Brisbane. I preferred it to some of the big theme parks because it was quieter and the rides were better for younger children. Currently, if you purchase a ticket you can use it three times as well.
