It's the biggest public holiday of the year here in Australia so how will you be spending the day? Don't worry too much if you've got no plans as of yet because there are heaps of events going on in and around Brisbane for you to choose from! Here's a rundown of some of the best:

Got plans during the day? Why not head to Southbank in the evening for the stunning Australia Day Firework Display.

If you're looking to get a taste of Australia then be sure not to miss out on Southbank's Great Australian Bites, an Australian foodie festival featuring taster plates, live entertainment and heaps of pop up stalls.

Rock out to classic Aussie tunes at the Inexcess Australia Day Event at the Grand View Hotel, Cleveland Point. Live entertainment, sack races, tug a war and delicious Aussie food!

Why not treat your family to some eclectic, colourful and culturally diverse fun and entertainment this Australia Day, all finished off with a fantastic laser show? Head to Encircle's Multicultural Australia Day Party at Pine River's Showgrounds for heaps of live entertainment, rides and lots of family fun.

For an "easy going Aussie time" this Australia Day, you can't miss the celebrations taking place at Suttons Beach, Redcliffe where there will be classic thong throwing competitions, beach cricket and a tasty BBQ. Perfect for all family members!

If you're looking to put yourself in a food coma this Australia Day then the Aussie BBQ Event at the Redlands RSL is the perfect place to do so! Enjoy some classic Aussie tunes and a "bonzer" spread of perfect Aussie BBQ food.

Looking for something a little different this Australia Day? Head on over to Brisbane City for the Ultimate Australian Adventure Day, what could be better than kayaking, abseiling and even taking part in a game of laser tag this bank holiday? Adult and Child tickets available.

Australia Day at Aussie World is the one and only place to celebrate Australia's favourite day. Dunny races, mullet tossing, tug of war plus heaps of other kids activities make this event the perfect family day out!

Ipswich's four swim centres will all host their very own Australia Day Family Fun Day this January with free entry for all the family and the perfect way to escape this hot weather. Why not jump in and cool off!

A fantastic experience for young and old and one NOT to be missed! We Are One Australia Day Festival, Springfield Lakes is a free event celebrating Multicultural Diversity and every day Australians. There'll be heaps of stalls, games, live entertainment and carnival rides as well as an awesome firework display.

How about you take a trip away from Brisbane this Australia Day and head over to Coochiemudlo Island to celebrate, play and roam the Island Markets. There will be heaps of stalls, sandy beaches and live performances to enjoy on the day with family and friends and the best part? It's all just a seven minute ferry ride away!

Australia Day by the Bay at Shorncliffe - mark it in your diaries and share it with your friends! There'll be lots of free kids activities, live music and the annual Tosser Turner Cup so bring your family and a picnic blanket and enjoy Australia Day with a party in the park!

One of the best places to be this Thursday is the Sandstone Point Australia Day Water Park Party! They will be water balls, a water slide, teacups, dodgem cars, jumping castle plus heaps more family friendly entertainment! Entry is free and there's something for every age at this must attend event.
In 2017, Brisbane Powerhouse has brought together talented local performers for a unique carnival of comedy, burlesque, circus, music, theatre and more.
