Family friendly events for Australia Day

Australia Day is coming up, and there is so much to see and do over the long weekend to celebrate with your family. Australia Day is on the 26th January, and then in true Aussie style, there is a public holiday on 27th January.

If you are stuck with what to do over the long weekend, here is our ultimate guide to the best Australia Day events that are happening in and around Brisbane.

1. Australia Day at Southbank

Brisbane's premier destination of Southbank, will be having free live music on the green in the parklands. Enjoy the beautiful views on the lawn with your family, while feasting on delicious takeaway hampers from River Quay Fish, The Jetty, Popolo and Aquitaine. Live music will be playing from 2pm to 6pm.

2. A Very Special Australian Storytime

The Brisbane Square library will be having a free story time of Australian stories.

3. Australia Day in Redcliffe

Sutton's Beach in Redcliffe is hosting an idyllic Australia Day celebration that is both free to attend, and can be enjoyed by the whole family. Enjoy beach activities, live music, food trucks and even a Lamington eating competition.

4. Australia Day Kids Carnival at the Gap Tavern

The Gap Tavern is a family friendly favourite for Brisbane Mums, and this Australia Day they are hosting a kids carnival. There will be face painting, balloon twisters and a jumping castle on the kids deck. As well as the regular awesome food on offer.

5. Australia Day on Bribie Island

Spend Australia Day at Brennan Park on Bribie Island, for a free family day of beach and sun. Take part in the Lamington or Ice Cream eating competitions, participate in beach activities like sack races, dino egg and spoon races and volleyball and listen to live music.

6. Australia Day Carpark at Club Ipswich

Club Services Ipswich is having an Australia Day Carpark party. There will be a live grunt rock band, food and drink stalls, a jumping castle, face painting, petting zoo and a pie eating competition.

7. Aussie Arvo Free Pool Party

Enjoy a free pool party at Lawnton Aquatic Centre this Australia Day. There will be live music, a poolside DJ, rides, games, sausage sizzle and even a movie in the pool. It is set to be the ultimate Australia Day out.

8. Australia Day Family Fun Day at Everton Park Hotel

The very family friendly Everton Park Hotel is hosting a 'Wildly Fun Wildlife Show' on Australia Day. There will be range of unique Australian wildlife like reptiles, frogs, birds and cute marsupials. There will also be Australian themed food available all day and a kids lamington eating competition.

9. Australia Day Weekend at Victoria Park

Victoria Park is hosting an all weekend Australia Day celebration at the bistro. Enjoy Aussie lawn games including tug-of-war and sack races, jumping castle, giant games, kids bubble zone, live music and market carts. Plus you can always enjoy the great food and playground that Victoria Park is famous for.

10. The Great Australian Dunny Race at Aussie World

Where better to celebrate Australia Day than at Aussie World! Take part in the Great Australian Dunny Race, and enjoy free activities with events, live music and fun for the whole family.
