For decades, we’ve asked kids, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” But in a world that’s changing faster than ever, that question no longer fits.

Today’s kids won’t have one job or even one career. They’re more likely to wear many hats across their lives. The rise of portfolio careers, gig work, and automation means that job security and stability are no longer guaranteed.

So instead of preparing kids for a single profession, we need to equip them with a success mindset - the ability to adapt, take risks, stay curious, and keep going when things don’t go to plan.

Success in the future requires more than knowledge

The goal isn’t to raise kids who always play it safe, it’s to raise kids who can think for themselves, take initiative, and make bold decisions even when there’s no clear path.

A success mindset means helping kids learn to:

• Take smart risks instead of always choosing the safe option
• Bounce back from mistakes and try again
• Stay motivated even when things get boring or hard
• Think for themselves and not follow the crowd
• See challenges as opportunities to grow
• Stay focused on their long-term vision, even when things change

These are the qualities that will carry them through any career - and life in general.

What does this look like in practice?

At MiniBoss, we teach kids how to think and act like entrepreneurs - not just to build a business, but to build confidence, initiative, and real-world problem-solving skills.

Our students learn to:
• Ask questions and really understand what people need
• Plan and stick to a budget (yes, even at age 6!)
• Create messages that connect with others emotionally
• Speak up, pitch their ideas, and believe in themselves
• Stay organised and finish what they start
• Make mistakes, learn from them, and keep going with confidence

They’re encouraged to try things, mess up, learn, and go again, because taking action is more important than waiting for certainty. That’s the mindset they’ll need, whatever career (or careers) they pursue.

We don’t teach kids to chase safety or repeat without thinking. We teach them how to create opportunities and think for themselves.

The future is uncertain, but a success mindset never goes out of style

If we want to raise confident, adaptable kids, we need to stop asking "what do you want to be" and start asking "what do you think?" and helping them build the mindset to thrive, no matter what life throws at them.
