Captain Burke Park, Kangaroo Point

by Sally Foster (follow)
Tucked underneath the Story Bridge

It may not be the Sydney Harbour Bridge, but the Brisbane Story Bridge is still an impressive structure and an icon of the city. But did you know that tucked underneath the bridge was a great all ages playground?

Captain Burke Park is a great place to have a bbq or picnic in Brisbane if you are meeting up with friends from either side of the river as a central point. There are even two designated sites for booking if you want to organise a family gathering and are worried about the availability of a site. You can do this here.

The actual playground has a nautical theme, complete with a fort, rowboat, activity panel, swings, slides and tunnels. It is not a huge playground, but is surrounded by lots of open grassy areas for play, plus it has the beautiful views of the bridge and the Brisbane River.

A great way to get to the park is via the City Cat, so you can make it an all day adventure. The park is close to the Holman Street ferry terminal. It is directly connected to the riverfront walk and bike path to South Bank, so there are lots of opportunities to include this park in a family day out.

Facilities of the park include:
playground
water fountains
bbq's
wheelchair access
car park
toilets
shelters

So if you are looking to play with a view, this is your spot. Otherwise, you can check out even more awesome inner suburb playgrounds here.
