International Women's Day 2019

by Sally Foster (follow)
Friday 8th March

It is a very inspiring time to be a woman. With International Women’s Day coming up on March 8th, it is a day to reflect on our achievements as women, and speak about how far we still have to go to have gender parity.

The theme for International Women's Day in 2019 is “Women’s rights are human rights!” and #BalanceforBetter. It is where we celebrate the achievements of women, whether social, political, economic or cultural and celebrate all women, in all their diversities.

Do you want to learn how to knit? Or have recently started and would like to meet some new friends to share your creativity with, all while having a good chat? The Brisbane Knitting Club has classes for you!

1. International Women's Day Fun Run

The International Women's Day Fun Run is an event run to support women with breast cancer by raising funds for Mater Chicks in Pink. There are 5km and 10km options available and it is run on Sunday 3rd March. There are no on the day registrations so be sure to register your support now if you are interested.

You and your family are invited to a Photography for Parents Workshop on Sunday 28th April at New Farm Park.
The Brisbane Crochet Club meets weekly to learn crochet, meet other Brisbane mums, and have a good chat. Whether you're a complete beginner or a seasoned pro, everyone is welcome to come along!
2. International Women's Day at Australia Zoo

On Friday 8th March join Terri and Bindi Irwin as they share their incredible stories as Wildlife Warriors. Learn about the inspiring stories of these female leaders while enjoying free-flowing champagne, a seated brunch and a meet and greet with Australia Zoo's wildlife. Find out more about this event here.

3. International Women's Day at the Jubilee Hotel

Enjoy an evening of glamour at the Jubilee Hotel with 100% of our raffle profits going to White Ribbon Australia. Guests can drop off their unwanted business clothing, which then will be donate to Brisbane women shelters to help other women looking to find work.

4. International Women's Day Morning Tea

Head to the Victoria Park Golf Complex at Herston which is a celebration of the achievements and contributions made by many women in the community with a focus on health and wellbeing.

If none of these events take your interest, then why not get a group of your friends together and have your own celebration. Host a high tea or lunch of your own and speak about being a woman in 2019 and your achievements and struggles.

How are you celebrating International Women's Day? Please let us know in the comments below. We would love to hear from you!
