Jo, founder and director of Joanne Fitzgerald Therapy, is a counsellor with many years of experience working with children (aged 6+), youth and young adults who have a range of mental health concerns including eating disorders, trauma, suicidal/self-harm behaviours and general mental health struggles such as anxiety and depression and personality disorders.
Jo works alongside Amy, a registered psychologist with a passion for helping adolescents and adults navigate life’s challenges. Since 2018, Amy has worked in community, school, and private practice settings. Amy utilises Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), as well as Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) in both individual sessions and group settings.*
Based in the northern suburbs of Brisbane, Jo and her team of professional and experienced therapists offer a wealth of knowledge and compassion and aim to turn challenges into opportunities for growth and understanding through:
holistic and empathetic support to individuals grappling with eating disorders and concerns related to food or weight.
The team at Joanne Fitzgerald Therapy, a dedicated private practice, uses a combination of techniques to determine what is most suitable for helping you through your situation.
Individual therapy sessions are available for children, youth, and adults. Group programs are also available including:
Social Skills Group: A social skills training program that provides young people aged 12-18 with the opportunity to enhance their social skills in a supportive, peer-driven environment. Rooted in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, this program is ideal for young people who struggle with social anxiety, or who are neurodivergent.
Dialectical Behavioural Therapy - DBT: An extensively researched, evidence-based therapy aimed at helping youth and adults build skills in three main areas; mindfulness, distress tolerance and interpersonal communication. With DBT skills training as part of a holistic, evidence-based treatment plan, you can not only manage but also develop radical acceptance for yourself and your life.
There will be two DBT groups commencing in February this year - one for teenagers under 18, and one for adults 18+.
Joanne Fitzgerald Therapy recognises that every journey is unique and is devoted to guiding you step by step towards a brighter tomorrow.
"Unlock your unique strengths and values, and embark on a journey towards a more fulfilling, enriched life." -
Joanne Fitzgerald
