Karawatha Forest Park

A park that has it all for active and curious kids

Karawatha Forest Park truly has it all when it comes to a great day out for your family. There are walking tracks, a fascinating Discovery Centre, an abundance of wildlife and an outdoor rock and water play area. With all of these features, it is sure to be an active and educational experience for both you and your kids.

Located 18 kilometres south of Brisbane's CBD adjoining Compton Road at Karawatha and Kuraby, it is one of the largest area of remnant bushland within the city. So much has been done to preserve the wildlife and keep the integrity of the amazing natural environment.

Do you need updated family photos?
You can start your day with a hike or walk on one of the many trails. From the easy Melaleuca Circuit which is only 1km and takes about 20 minutes, to the more difficult Rocks Track which is 2.5 km return and takes about 1 hour.

Download a copy of the track map and pick a trail that suits your age and ability. Each trail is lovely and features an abundance of flora and fauna.

After your walk, there are picnic and bbq areas available, so you can enjoy a packed lunch amongst nature. There are two picnic areas to choose from, but the Karawatha Forest Discovery Centre/Acacia Road picnic area is next to the Discovery Centre and the nature play area. There is also access to toilets.

The Karawatha Forest Discovery Centre provides various interactive experiences and has a nature play space. It is open is open Tuesday to Sunday from 9am to 4pm and provides free or low cost activities including a nature walk. Some features of the centre includes water play, climbing features, discovery trails and sculptural artworks. The nature play space does not include traditional play equipment. It is designed for your little ones to use their imagination and is great for sensory development.

Do you need updated family photos?
If you are at the Karawatha Forest Park to spot birds and animals, there are home to more than 100 bird species and rare species such as the greater glider, koalas and the green-thighed frog.

Overall, it is a wonderful outdoor place to enjoy some family time and go exploring in the great outdoors.
