Lorikeet Park - Mt Ommaney

by Sally Foster (follow)
Fully fenced park amongst the native trees

Is there anything more satisfying as a Mum than finding a new playground to go to? Just me? I am on an almost constant hunt for new places to take my toddler, so I had to share this latest find in the hope you would love it as much as me.

Lorikeet Park is located at Mt Ommaney, 14 kilometres south-west of the CBD on the Centenary Highway. The park is very close to the the Mt Ommaney Shopping Centre, almost directly opposite the road. It is a very large playground surrounded by beautiful bushland, native trees and also next to a golf course.

The best part about this park is the playground that is fully fenced. It is fenced all the way around the perimeter, but with multiple access points depending on the direction you are coming from. Inside the fence is play equipment for all ages, from babies all the way up to older kids.

The playground equipment includes climbing animals, a huge flying fox, a sway (or as I call it, a wibble wobble), lots of swings, see-saws, climbing fort and other smaller pieces of equipment perfect for imagination play.

The playground has some areas that are covered, but most of the equipment is out in the open. There are many trees surrounding the playground though. As well as a playground, there is a beautiful area directly outside the fence that is perfect for a picnic. There are shelter sheds, barbecues, taps and paths for riding bikes.

If you have kids that love to kick or throw a ball, there is plenty of room for that too. What I was most surprised about Lorikeet Playground was that at 9:30am on a Saturday, normally peak playground time, it was almost empty! So there is heaps of space for your little ones to run around and have a blast. I was kicking a football a fair distance and there was absolutely nobody to hit.

If you have a bird lover, there are so many native birds in the park and nesting in the trees in the bird boxes. Including the park namesake, the lorikeet. They may be a little noisy, but they sure are cute!

I would highly recommend Lorikeet Park for anyone looking for a gorgeous playground for their family to enjoy. It would also be a lovely place to host a birthday party or family event in a peaceful environment.

Location: 158 Dandenong Rd, Mount Ommaney
Parking: Street parking
Good to Know: Pick up lunch or a coffee at Mt Ommaney Shopping Centre before heading to the playground.

Where is your best hidden gem playground? Care to share? We would love to visit!
