Nudgee Beach

by Sally Foster (follow)
Quiet family time by the bay

Nudgee Beach often gets overlooked by its nearby neighbours Sandgate, Brighton, Shorncliffe and Redcliffe. But it is a picturesque spot to go with your family and is well worth a visit. It is also the closest 'beach' to the Brisbane CBD.

Named after the neighbouring suburb of Nudgee, Nudgee Beach is set on Moreton Bay, surrounded by numerous mangroves, and borders the Boondall Wetlands. When the tide is out, you can walk directly on the sand quite a far way out. You can run, dig in the sand and stroll with your dog. There are shells and sticks to collect and plenty of opportunity to build some muddy sandcastles.

Plenty of people canoe and kayaak at Nudgee Beach. You can also ride your bike from Nudgee Beach along the bike paths towards the Boondall Wetlands in one direction, or along the Kedron Brook towards Kedron and Toombul in the other direction. To find out more about cycling at Nudgee Beach see here. You can also run and walk along the tracks as well. The path is flat and well sign posted.

There are two playgrounds at Nudgee Beach, and the best part is, they are rarely busy. Even on the weekends and school holidays! There is a small toddler sized playground right on the waterfront where your little one can swing in the breeze as you gaze out into the water. There is a see saw, small fort and slide in this playground, but no shade.

The other bigger playground has lots of swings, a big climbing and fort structure with slides, a small flying fox and a big see saw. There is also a basketball hoop and half court. This area is shaded by trees and there are seats nearby. Neither playground is fenced but there is no road close by so it is safe.

Nudgee Beach is a great place to have a picnic or family gathering. There is plenty of wide open green spaces and lots of picnic tables and bbq's available. There are shaded areas as well if it is a hot day and there are toilet facilities available.

On the main road on the way to Nudgee Beach you can stop off at the small convenience store for supplies or pick up some fish and chips to have by the waterfront. There is a dog park and boat park nearby as well if you want to bring your furry friend or go for a boat ride. These stops are all located on the main road on the way to Nudgee Beach. You will find plenty of parking space.

Give Nudgee Beach a go! It is a lovely outdoor activity to do with your family.
