Opportunity to participate in a Melbourne University PhD study.

Many Australians are in debt, and this can be a challenge. There are laws and regulations in place to address problems with debt, but not enough is known about how well they work.

Melbourne University PhD student Nicola Howell is hoping to find out more about the use and impact of different laws that are available to help people who have consumer debt problems, including financial difficulty assistance and hardship variations, bankruptcy and debt agreements.

You can read more about Nicola and her research here .

Who can participate in the research?

Anyone who has:

  • received help from a credit provider (for example, the credit provider agreed to change your contract) at least 6 months ago (and no more than 5 years ago); or
  • become bankrupt at least 12 months ago (and no more than 10 years ago); or
  • entered a formal debt agreement at least 12 months ago (and no more than 10 years ago)

  • If you’ve had problems with consumer credit debts and any of the above circumstances apply to you, please consider completing an online survey for Nicola’s research. It should take about 20-25 minutes of your time.

You do not have to give your name to complete the survey.

However, you can provide your contact details if you would like to win one of two $40 gift vouchers, and/or contribute more to the study.

Any contact details given will be treated confidentially, and securely stored separately from your survey responses.

The research has been approved by Melbourne University’s Human Research Ethics Committee (Ethics ID 1851074).

Note that we are not directly involved in the study, but have agreed to mention it on our Facebook page in case it is of interest to our followers.

I’d like to get involved, where to next?

Great! Please go to this link , where you will able to enter the survey most relevant to your experience. The surveys will close on 22 December 2019.

    Any questions?

You will find more details on the study by clicking on the survey link above. Nicola also invites you to contact her directly with any questions or concerns about the research. You can contact Nicola at [email protected].
