Your child's first birthday is undoubtedly a very special occasion. Gathering your family and friends together to celebrate this milestone is a right of passage, but sometime the simpler the location the better. Brisbane has a huge array of parks and playgrounds that make the perfect backdrop for a first birthday party.
These ones come recommended by Brisbane Mums and have age appropriate equipment and suitable facilities for a birthday party.
Carindale Recreation Reserve is an excellent all ages playground, not far from the Carindale shopping centre and set within a nature reserve. It is a space themed playground, with a ton of fun equipment and you could easily spend half a day here.
Location: 27 Cadogan Street, Carindale
Facilities: BBQ's, toilets including wheelchair accessible toilets, on site and street parking, off leash dog area.
This fully fenced playground is perfect for babies and toddler aged children. There are the cutest little houses that have been set up as a market, cafe and fire engine, that connect via tunnels. They really went all out by building them in bright colours and full of fun imagination play things like a cash register, food, table and chairs for the cafe with order window, dog hose, mini fire hydrant and slides.
Location: 93 Kitchener Road, Ascot
Facilities: Toilets, bbqs, partially shaded, fully fenced, dog off leash, water taps and street parking.
Kalinga Park in the leafy inner northern suburb of Clayfield, is tucked away right next to the Kedron Brook with no traffic nearby to worry you. In fact, you can either drive and park there, or ride your bike straight along the designated bike path with your whole family in tow.

The park is filled with very large leopard trees (hence its nickname), which not only provide great, shaded areas, but also drop heaps of seed pods which are great fun to collect, stack and 'post' in the mailbox.
As the name suggests, the playground has been built with children of all different physical and intellectual abilities in mind. How wonderful is that! Because all children are special in their own way and play so differently, there is something for each of them.
Location: Olearia Street West, Arana Hills
Facilities: On site car park off the main road, fully fenced, bbqs, shelter sheds, toilets, water fountains and wheelchair accessible.
The highlight of the playground is a huge climbing structure with three towers, two of which feature giant, enclosed, slides (each with skylights along the way down). These towers are reached by an extensive network of climbing ropes, and have tunnels leading between them. There is also a crow's nest for the little pirates in your family.
