Nothing tastes better than fruit you have picked yourself. Here are some places where you can do this
With the cooler months upon us, so too is my favourite time of year, strawberry picking season! Not only is it a great activity to entertain the kids, it ensures your fridge is stocked full of delicious fresh produce for days to come.
Brisbane is spoiled for choice with a number of excellent pick your own farms only a short drive away. Pick your own season usually runs from June to September, however, be sure to check each farm for picking season and hours before visiting.

Strawberry Fields is a personal favourite. The fields are located an hour north of Brisbane, but it is well worth the drive. After strolling through the fields and choosing your strawberry haul, you can visit the cafe stocked with delicious treats made from their own strawberries such as ice cream, pancakes and milkshakes.
Parents can also kick back and enjoy a coffee while the children play in the playground. If you prefer to bring your own picnic there are some picnic tables and plenty of space to spread out.
Location: 133 Laxton Rd, Palmview.
Exit 190 off Bruce Highway

For the southsiders, this venue is a certain winner. Pick your own strawberries plus pick up some delicious treats in the shop while you are there. Chocolate coated strawberries are a yummy addition to the ones you find out in the patch.

Also located north of Brisbane, this farm stocks local produce as well as pick your own strawberries. The farm shop is packed full of delicious local honey, nuts and jam, as well as the all important ice cream.
Location: 124-190 Rutters Rd, Elimbah
If you are yet to experience strawberry picking make sure you arrive prepared. I suggest packing some gumboots, as many of the patches are quite wet and muddy.
Also, most venues have a strict no eating in the patch rule. We overcome this by picking twice as many as we need to take home and gorging on them after we have paid.
Finally, make sure you give your fruit a good wash at the washing stations before digging in.
What other pick your own venues have you visited? Please let us know in the comments below, we would love to hear from you.
