If you are looking for an experience of art and culture that both you and your kids will enjoy, then a visit to the
Queensland Art Gallery I Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA) is a must do activity. The best part? It is free!
Located in Southbank in two adjacent riverside buildings, QAGOMA is not just a place for adults who enjoy art. There are elements specifically created for the little ones in mind.

The
Children's Art Centre is a place for kids to learn about art and artists from across Australia and around the world.
They currently feature an exhibit called 'Roy and Matilda' which is an Australian Art Collection with two friendly mice who love art galleries and live behind a tiny door.

As well as a variety of fun activities and interactive installations, there is an ever changing rotation of events throughout the year for children. This includes Art Starters, Art Play Date and Art Explorers. Each program is aged at a different age group, from 4 months to 5 years. Check out the
website for more details on programs coming up. These programs are currently online due to COVID, but there is still plenty in the children's art centre for your littlest ones to enjoy.

There is a restaurant and two cafes at QAGOMA if you want a bite to eat. Otherwise you can pack a lunch and pick a spot to sit riverside at Southbank, which is only a short walk away. If it is nice weather, that would be my pick.
Don't be nervous about visiting an art gallery with children or babies either. There are plenty of access points for prams and it is family friendly. I would say that some days the children even outnumber the adults!
A visit to QAGOMA can be made into a whole day event. Accessible by both public transport and by car, it is at the heart of Brisbane's cultural precinct. Also located in this precinct is the
State Library,
Museum and
Science Centre so you can start your day in the early hours and be kept busy until the evening. Entry to all these places are free, you just might have to pay for some special exhibits that catches your eye.
