Queensland Museum SparkLab Review

A Mum's review of the new exhibit at QLD Museum

The Queensland Museum has now opened the SparkLab Science Centre. With 40 interactive exhibits across three zones, this place is sure to grab your little scientist's interest.

Prices for the exhibit range from $10 to $46, and children under 5 are free. I would recommend buying online before heading in as tickets book out fast. We had planned to go to the 11am time slot but had to come back for the 2pm as they were all booked out. Once inside, you are can stay as long as you want, which is great as there is so much to see.

Our children range from 9 years old to 1 years old, and there was something for each age so no one felt left out. It is quite a small area though, so if you have a larger family I would suggest having more than one adult with you.

A few of the interactive highlights are listed below:

- Heavy liquids and magnets working together, and by spinning handles on either side you were able to manipulate the heavy liquids.

- Mini circuits in which you could create different circuit boards, solar lighting, a fan and a security alarm.

- A large interactive globe, which showed different statistics, wind patterns etc. It showed the moon and different solar systems.

- Using colours to show how light could reflect, projecting different coloured shadows.

Other activities included, pully systems, showing how to lift the most with the least effort, magnet walls for building, huge building blocks and even a quiet corner for crafts.

Each activity had instructions, which are easy to follow so it makes learning simple. Most only take 10 minutes each to do, so waiting time is not long.
