Recycled Art at Judith Wright Centre, Salvage

While heading home from a few hours at New Farm Park, we (ok...I) decided that we'd visit 'Salvage' at the Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Arts.

'Salvage' is the name given to the Recycled Art Exhibition where 10 artists have thoughtfully crafted pieces using materials found at the Recycled Tip Shop and other places. The purpose of the exhibition is to encourage everyone to rethink their waste and explore the possibility of repurposing it..

As I looked around, I was pleasantly surprised to see an exhibit by Meg Solly (and her husband Clint) from She Skills (who created a wall display with a wooden tennis clock) over at Yeronga. She taught me how to use power tools earlier this year and create a planter box using old pallets. She is a strong advocate for recycling and repurposing items as well as inspiring women to become independent and ensuring equality in all aspects of life.

Although Saturday 19th August was the last day for the exhibition, the top 3 artists (voted by the public) will have their pieces displayed at the Brisbane Square Library for another 4 weeks so there is still time to check out some of these awesome creations.

There are always different events and exhibitions on offer so for something different, why not visit the Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Arts and take some time to closely marvel at some truly artistic creations.

Check out the Judith Wright Centre website for more information on upcoming events.
