Rocks Riverside Park

by Sally Foster (follow)
Perfect park for free water play

Rocks Riverside Park is by far one of my absolute favourite parks in Brisbane. Any park that boasts a water play area is all right by me! This park has so many facilities to suit all ages that it is a perfect day out for any family.

Located at Seventeen Mile Rocks in Brisbane’s South-West, this park was created at the site of an old cement quarry. It still boasts some industrial structures paying homage to its past and displayed as art throughout the park.

I think the most special part of Rocks Riverside is the water play area that operates in the summer months. There is a shallow wading pool, man made streams and fountains shooting water. It’s the perfect antidote on a hot day and is suitable for all ages.

In addition to the water play area; there is fantastic play equipment. There is an adventure playground, flying fox and climbing web that are all perfect for the older kids. The flying fox is actually so fun that I like to hop on as well. There is no sense in the kids having all the fun!

If you have a baby or toddler, there is play equipment suitable for them as well. There is a sandpit, swings and slides to keep them busy. The equipment is really well cared for and on rubber matting, which is friendly for crawling knees or early walkers.

If you are meeting up with friends or family for a picnic, there are plenty of spots to choose from. There are shelter sheds, BBQ's and shaded grassy areas found throughout the park. You can choose to set up beside the play areas, or closer to the river for a bit of peace and quiet.

As the name suggests, Rocks Riverside Park is situated alongside the Brisbane River. The views are lovely and there are walking and cycling tracks along the perimeter for you to take them in.

Feeling energetic? Parkrun is held every Saturday at 7am. Parkrun is a free weekly timed 5km event that is suitable for everyone. It draws a big crowd and is a great way to start a Saturday.

Looking to hold an event? There are three places you can hire for short events at the park as well. Each site has covered options and according to the Brisbane City Council website, suitable for a jumping castle. That information just begs you to use that as an excuse to have one! .
