The festive season is in full swing in Brisbane and the temperate is soaring. If you need to escape the house and cool down, try heading to the Sandgate Aquatic Centre for a splash.

The pool was recently renovated in 2017. The children’s wading pool area has been updated to include a giant tipping water bucket. There is also a waterslide and water fountains so the kids can run riot.

If you fancy some laps after the kids have exhausted themselves, there is a 50m lap pool. Other facilities include barbecues and a kiosk that sells snacks and drinks.

There are plenty of grassy spots to lie down in the sunshine and relax with your family without the usual frenetic atmosphere of an aquatic centre. Take along a picnic blanket and some toys and you could stay for hours.

The location of the pool is the best selling point. It is situated by the Sandgate foreshore with lovely views of the bay. You can walk and bike along the designated path for miles. The bike path is wide and well used by the locals.

There are also plenty of local parks nearby. One of the best is Decker Park, which is a short 5 minute drive or 40 minute walk from the pool. It has a fantastic playground and sandpit for kids.

Location: 231 Flinders Parade, Sandgate
