Sea Monsters: Prehistoric Ocean Predators

by Sally Foster (follow)
Perfect for dinosaur lovers young and old

If you are looking for a fun day out in Brisbane, then head to the Queensland Museum for the Sea Monsters Exhibit. It is such a favourite of my four year old son, we have now been twice. And he wants to go again.

Sea Monsters is a temporary exhibit at the Queensland Museum. It is all about the giant marine reptiles that hunted the depths of the sea. Visitors can see real fossils from millions of years ago and gigantic replicas including a 13-metre long Elasmosaur and 9-metre long Prognathodon.

My four year old absolutely loved the hands-on interactives activities, he was especially enamoured with the 180-degree immersive video that puts you right inside the action and much more. As well as educational, this exhibit is just plain awesome and will completely enrapture your kids.

It is the first time this exhibit has come to Queensland and will be here until May of 2021. It is a ticketed event and I would recommend booking ahead of time as allocations exhaust quite quickly and we actually missed out one weekend. You can book online here.

Tickets cost $15.50 for an adult and $12.50 for a child. The museum is located on the Corner of Grey and Melbourne Streets, South Bank, South Brisbane and is open from 9:30am to 4:00pm

You can park right at the museum for $17 per day, or try your luck with street parking. This is definetly easier during the week though. And if you don't drive, the museum is a short walk from South Brisbane train station or there is a bus stop right out front.

The museum has plenty of changing rooms, toilets, refreshments and is connected to the art gallery and State Library which also has plenty of offer for families

If you are on a budget and did not want to pay for tis exhibit, the Queensland Museum has plenty of free exhibits to enjoy and is a great day out in Southbank. You could easily spend 2-3 hours there and not pay anything.

What other dinosaur themed activities are there in Brisbane? Please let me know so I can check them out!
