If you can't make it to the 2024 Paris Olympics to watch the competitions and see the real, masterfully designed created Eiffel Tower, then Brisbane has brought its own version of the famous monument to the River City for a limited time - the Paris Tower.

When you mention the word Paris, of course, there is the art and culture, beautiful food and exquisitely designed fashion, but there is no overlooking its primary structure - the famous Eiffel Tower.

Following the end of the Brisbane french themed, Le Festival and in time for the start of the Paris Olympics, Brisbane installed a miniature Paris Tower at Southbank in the Cultural Forecourt opposite the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC). The structure is the centrepiece of a broadcast zone where visitors can also relax in a bean bag, order a drink and watch the games on the big screen.

The Paris Tower stands four storeys tall and lights up every night, paying homage to the world-famous Eiffel Tower. In comparison, the original Eiffel Tower in Paris rests on a base that is 5 meters (17 feet) tall, and the antenna atop the tower gives it a total elevation of 330 meters (1,083 feet).

In another special feature, every time an Australian athlete wins a medal during the Olympic and Paralympic Games, the Paris Tower will light up in either gold, silver or bronze. How special is that!

During my visit, just like the real tower. I enjoyed stepping into the centre and looking up to the top to imagine the incredible design which Gustave Eiffel created when he imagined the tower.

Behind the tower is The Wheel of Brisbane ferris wheel with its 41 gondolas. It stands 60 metres above the ground and offers skyrise views of the city. (Note: Tickets to the Wheel of Brisbane are $22.00 for adults).

To the left of the Eiffel Tower is the famous Brisbane sign which, just in front of the river, is a photo must-do for tourists.

It is understood that after the Games have finished Brisbane's own symbol of Paris Tower will be put into safe storage and will re-emerge at special events such as next year's French Festival.

What Else?
To see the Paris Tower for yourself, head to QPAC at Southbank which is located on the banks of the Brisbane River in the Central Business District. Access to the site is available by car, bus, City Cat ferry and train or you can walk across one of the city bridges.

Entry to the Southbank Olympic area is free as is seeing the tower. I visited in mid-morning on a weekday and while I saw some market stands advertising French food, they were closed. Perhaps it is part of the nighttime offering. So another simple and pleasant option is to bring your own picnic blanket, a bag of French croissants and pastries, some olives and cheese and find a spot on the grass to sit and eat below the Paris Tower. Magnifique!

So be sure to not miss Brisbane's version of the iconic towering symbol of Paris during the Olympic season.
