There is no doubt that kids love trains. My son goes into conniptions every time a 'choo choo' goes past. So the idea of a museum dedicated to trains is amazing.
The Workshops Rail Museum in Ipswich, is an interactive heritage experience located at Australia’s oldest railway workshops. They have been in operation for 150 years and have some beautiful historic buildings.

You can enjoy a guided tour through the workshops, and see people still working on the genuine restoration of the Heritage Steam Train Fleet. You will enjoy hearing living history from railway workers. Tours depart daily at 10:30 and 12 noon.
There are over 15 permanent exhibits to discover. These exhibits include restored carriages, the largest model railway of Queensland and Australia’s oldest working steam locomotive. There are plenty of fun and interactive activities for the kids to take part in.
My son was obsessed with all the play toy carriages, train tracks and even the mini train 'station' where you could buy tickets and push your friends around in carriages. There are train toys, books and dress ups and even a carriage with a dining car that has a toy kitchen.

If you go to the museum on a Sunday, you can also take part in Steam Train Sunday. This is where you can enjoy a train ride on an actual steam train and take a journey through yesteryear. Tickets are limited and there are conditions, so visit their website for more information.
You can spend a full day at the Workshops Rail Museum, but allow at least 3 hours. You can even bring a packed picnic lunch to enjoy on the museum grounds. If you feel like purchasing something, you can visit the Workshops' original canteen and enjoy coffee, cake or lunch.
Just a word of warning: If you go on a hot day, it can get quite warm inside! Save it for a cooler day.

Prices: Adults $14.50, Concession $12.50, Child 3-15 $11.50 and children under 3 are Free. There are also annual and group passes available.

In 2019 Gymboree Play & Music Underwood will be FREE for all babies aged 6 months or under! This is a fantastic opportunity to bring your baby to socialise with other young babies and do tummy time together!
