I recently returned from a weekend farm stay at Wittacork Dairy Cottages. It was one of the best weekends away I have ever had, and we made some truly unforgettable family memories.
Wittacork Dairy Cottages are located close to Maleny, which is nestled in the hinterland of the Sunshine Coast. It combines all of the best parts of Maleny. Lush rainforest, rolling green hills, a glistening lake and a genuine farm stay. Wittacork is a working farm so you can truly have a taste of what a real farm feels like without the crowds.
The property features four self contained cottages that are set on a ridge overlooking Lake Baroon and the Kondalilla National Park. They are set up for families, and include features that will make your stay comfortable. Our cabin including a baby gate on the deck, high chair, toddler chair, toddler stool, children's books, dvd's and games and a toddler safety gate to put on a single bed. The view from the master room was amazing too, looking out straight over the lake and rolling green hills.
As a modern day working farm with over 500 acres, Wittacork has so much for families to see and do. There are walking tracks through the rainforest, access to the lake (via a steep hill!) and of course, lots of interaction with the animals and the workings of the farm.
Each morning at 7am you can go along to feed the calves, goats, pigs, chickens and ponies. When we were there, there were lots of baby calves to feed bottles of milk to, my toddler absolutely loved this. There are also tractor ride with Farmer Robert, a lovely and genuine person, while his faithful dogs run alongside.
Each afternoon you can go along to see the cows being milked. The milk goes to Maleny Dairies for bottling and the owners of the farm are kind enough to leave a bottle of milk for your stay. Kids can then collect the eggs from the chickens before going on another tractor ride and seeing all the animals again. There are also pony led rides that can be booked depending on the season.
Maleny itself is only a short drive away and is full of trendy cafes, coffee shops, restaurants and lots of places to buy local produce and knick knacks. Montville is not far either and is a gorgeous town to visit as well.
Wittacork is very busy on weekends until September, but there are still mid week bookings available, or you can book for later in the year. For details of accomodation options and costs, see their website here.
I will be back next year for sure!
