An amazing children's section with more than just books
Going to the library for an afternoon of reading, imagination play, rhyme time or making use of the resources, is a wonderful activity for all ages. From newborn babies right up to school aged children, a trip to the library can spark a lifelong love of reading.
My local library is lovely, but I decided to venture out to Chermside Library as I had heard amazing things. And I was so happy I made the trip, I was blown away by not just the overall library, but the size and quality of the children's section.
The library itself was huge and bright, obviously recently renovated, and chock full of resources. Resources including meeting rooms, computers, an on site cafe with plenty of tables, toilet and changing facilities, undercover parking and obviously, tons and tons of books. It is the perfect place for a Mum meet up!
The children's area has a number of sections created to cozy up and read with your little ones. There is a 'campfire' you could crawl into complete with log pillows, a play camper trailer with kitchen and benches, a bridge to run across, projections onto the ground and lots of couches. It can get a little hectic during busy periods, but that is not such a bad thing as you won't feel the need to 'sssshhh' quite as much as other libraries!.
Any Mum you speak to, will rave about how wonderful rhyme time is at their local library. Babies, Books and Rhymes, Toddler Time and Children's Story Time, are free sessions of singing, dancing, props and books. They are wonderful weekly activities to go to and meet other Mums. Especially on a rainy day! The Chermside Toddler Time I recently went to was exceptional.
Toddler time took place in a totally seperate room from the library, so that you don't have to worry about your child making a break for it and running away. The words to the songs are projected on the wall so everyone can sing along, and it is busy so that you can really make some music! My son loved it and was up and dancing his little heart out.
The Asian Street Food tour of Brisbane will introduce you to a variety of delicious Asian food, including Chinese, Malaysian, Thai, Vietnamese and Filipino.
As well as rhyme and toddler time, Chermside library also runs craft and book themed events throughout the year, similarly to other Brisbane City Council libraries. You can find out more about these events here.
Another great part about the Chermside Library is its location. It is right next door the Chermside Pool, a great public swimming pool with a slide and splash area, nearby to the Chermside Shopping Centre and also a very short drive from my personal favourite park Kidspace.
