Presented by GK LIVE & MPOWER, The Way We Were is a lavish live production that places Streisand's greatest songs centre stage, while tracing the remarkable journey behind them. More than a simple tribute, the show explores the life, challenges and triumphs of an artist who redefined what was possible for women in a male-dominated industry.

Audiences are treated to classics from Broadway, film and the charts, performed by Melinda Schneider, accompanied by a stellar live band and rich backing vocals. Together, they recreate the emotional sweep, power and elegance that have made Streisand’s performances so enduring.

Melinda Schneider: A Leading Lady of Australian Music

At the heart of the production is Melinda Schneider, one of Australia's most accomplished and enduring performers. Beginning her career on stage at just three years of age, Schneider has been a familiar and much-loved presence in Australian music and entertainment for more than 40 years.

An ARIA-nominated artist and six-time Golden Guitar Award winner, Schneider has built a reputation as one of the country’s finest singer-songwriters. Her songs have been recorded by John Farnham, Olivia Newton-John and Paul Kelly, and she is widely recognised for her warmth, vocal clarity and emotional honesty on stage.

Schneider also brings a wealth of theatrical experience to The Way We Were. Her Doris Day tribute, launched in 2011, began as an ARIA chart-topping album and went on to become a national touring success, playing sold-out seasons at Melbourne's Her Majesty’s Theatre, Sydney's Lyric Theatre and multiple encore performances at the Sydney Opera House.

Subsequent productions - including A Kind of Hush: The Magic of Karen Carpenter (2024), Both Sides Now - Celebrating the Songs of Joni Mitchell (2022), Young At Heart (2016) and Hear Me Roar (2018) - have confirmed her status as a specialist in bringing the music of iconic artists to life on stage, combining strong storytelling with commercial and critical success.
