Wackadoo, Bluey Comes to Bunnings

Bluey and the Heeler Family will be featured at selected Bunnings stores across Australia and New Zealand through February in a FREE interactive experience to bring their own version of Hammerbarn to life.

Bluey is a Brisbane-created animation series for children (which adults also secretly love) and follows the fun and funny adventures of a six-year-old Blue Heeler dog and her family. The unexpected escapades of Bluey, along with her sister Bingo mum Chilli and dad Bandit, came from the creative imagination of Joe Brumm, a graduate of Marist College in Ashgrove.

Bluey is produced by Queensland-based company Ludo Studio and has an unmissably Australian tone from the language, the stories and through to the people, places and references in each story. The distinct Queenslander style has influenced the style of dwelling that the Heelers' call home. As its popularity has grown from strength to strength, Bluey has gone on to become the most-watched program in the history of ABC iView.

So what is the significance of Bluey with Bunnings? Well, in the Season 2 Episode 2, called "Hammertown", the Bunnings-inspired warehouse is featured in the show as the Heeler family takes a fun-filled excursion to the hardware shopping meca to buy a pizza oven. As they stroll through the garden section and down the aisles with their trolleys, Bluey and Bingo create their own houses and even imagine having garden gnome husbands called Gerald and Hecuba.

So it only seems inevitable that Bunnings would transform for a limited period into Hammerbarn where the Bluey story can come to life but only at a select number of stores including:

Cannington (Western Australia),
Blacktown (NSW)
Glenorchy (Tasmania)
Carrum Downs (Victoria)
Munno Para (South Australia)
Keperra (Queensland)

As part of the features, Bunnings aka Hammerbarn will offer:
  • Bluey based activities;
  • - Bluey Sand Art: 3 – 4 February
    - DIY Bluey Kaleidoscope: 10 -11 February
    - Bluey and Bingo Plaster Painting: 17 -18 February
    - DIY Hecuba Pot Plant: 24 – 25 February

  • Photo opportunities with Bluey and Bandit

  • Bluey products including garden gnomes, bucket hats and dog toys

  • DIY Bluey inspired activities for the kids
  • a scavenger hunt to find the Bluey characters around the store
  • Free fairy floss and more.

  • Of course, the world has fallen in love with Bluey and the Heelers and their popularity is enormous, so as you might expect,t the crowds and queues to visit Hammerbarn are quite lengthy and parking spots are a rarity but well worth the wait.
