Closest surf beach to Brisbane
Over the Christmas holiday I did a lot of exploring with my family, specifically hunting down wonderful beaches close to our house on the northside. We discovered [Link https://www.visitmoretonbayregion.com.au/natural-attractions/woorim-ocean-beach-bribie-island Woorim Ocean Beach] on the beautiful Bribie Island and fell in love with its white sandy beach and crystal clear waters.
As the closest surf beach to Brisbane, only a 45 minute drive from the northside of Brisbane, it is just as nice as the beaches you would find at the Gold Coast or Sunshine Coast. It is a patrolled beach by the surf life savers, and actually has a surf life saving club and a nippers program too.
We had a great morning there building sand castles, running along the sand and having a big swim in the ocean. We set up camp with a beach umbrella, mat and lots of snacks, before retreating to the nearby shaded playground once it got too hot. There are also toilets and showers.

The access to Woorim is easy by car, with a big car park. Once you cross the bridge to Bribie Island, just follow the signs to North Street in Woorim and its only about a ten minute drive from the bridge.
It is a surf beach, so expect surf conditions. There can be currents and rips which is why there are surf life savers. Be sure to swim to the conditions within the flags and keep an eye on your kids. They are in the process of making it even more accessible by installing 30 metres of beach matting and having beach wheelchairs for free hire through the Bribie Island Surf Lifesaving Club on weekends and public holidays.
Woorim is close by to camping and accomodation options if you are thinking of going for longer than a half day or day trip. You can find out all about these options [Link https://visitbribieisland.com.au/ here.]. There are plenty of shops, parks and cafes close by to the beach so it is a great spot for a day trip or holiday for the whole family.
If you would prefer swimming in calmer waters, Bongaree Beach is another great family option on Bribie Island. It has completely gentle waters and is perfect for toddlers and young children who haven't yet mastered their swimming skills yet.
Bribie Island in general though is a wonderful place to visit with your family and definitely worth the drive.
