Buying your fruit, vegetables, meat and other grocery items at the market can be a big money saver and it directly supports a local farmer or entrepreneur. We are lucky in Brisbane that there are so many to choose from!

So where can you go to buy direct from the source? Here is a list of markets recommended by other Brisbane Mum's:

The Northey Street markets have been open since 1994 and produce stalls are required to hold organic certification or be in the process of completing their certification. So you know you are only getting the best fruits and vegetables for your family. They are a farm as well as a market. You can find fruit and vegetables, meat and seafood, bakery, eggs and dairy, hot food and drinks and sweets.

When: Every Sunday from 6am to 11am
Where: Northey Street City Farm, Windsor

Affectionately known as the Rocklea Markets, The Saturday Fresh Markets is Brisbane’s largest fresh food and lifestyle market and has live music, a lively atmosphere and of course, fresh fruit and vegetables. There are 220 stalls of meats and poultry, fresh cut flowers, breads and baked goods, gourmet and deli lines, a huge range of indoor and outdoor plants and lifestyle products. And

Arguably one of the most beautiful settings for a market, the Redcliffe Jetty Markets are right on the waterfront of the Redcliffe Esplanade. They include farm fresh produce, beautiful foods and entertainment for both adults and children. They often have a petting zoo.

When: Every Sunday 8am to 2pm
Where: Sutton Street, Redcliffe

Located at the old QUT campus, the Carseldine Farmers and Artisan Markets is a genuine produce, foodie and craft market with in season produce straight from farm to fork. They also have live music and entertainment for the kids.

When: Every Saturday 6am to 12 noon
Where: Old QUT Campus, Beams Road, Carseldine

5. [Link http://www.janpowersfarmersmarkets.com.au/ Jan Powers Farmers Markets]

The Jan Powers Farmers Markets is held at New Farm, Mitchelton and Manly. They are an icon of Brisbane and just about every Brisbane resident has headed to the Powerhouse at New Farm on a Saturday morning to visit the markets. They feature stalls from over 300 growers, selling fresh farm produce, flowers, breads, artisan designers, meat, fish, fowl, plants, organics, olives, spices, oils, honey, ginger beers, bagels, fresh pastas, curry powders, delicious smoothies, French delicacies, coffee and food combinations.

When and Where:

New Farm every Saturday 6am to noon
Mitchelton 1st Sunday of the month 6am to noon
Manly 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month 6am to noon.
