For the community of Sandgate, the annual Bluewater Festival celebrates the sea and marks the start of the
Brisbane to Gladstone yacht race.
The B2G
The Brisbane to Gladstone (B2G) Yacht Race is hosted by the
Queensland Cruising Yacht Club (QCYC)and sees yachts take a 308 nautical mile course passing through Moreton Bay and north along the coast to the finish at
Gladstone Harbour and past Redcliffe, the Sunshine Coast and K'Gari.
So it only seems right that the community should wave its flag to the brave and skilled sailors and hold its own festival. This popular annual community event will be held over the Easter long weekend in Shorncliffe, a bayside suburb of Brisbane. The team from the Sandgate and Bayside Chamber of Commerce has put together a jam-packed program. The festival will take over
Moora Park (near the historic Shorncliffe Pier), right by the water—making it a scenic, family-friendly outdoor festival with a relaxed beachside vibe.
The family-friendly festival will feature:
- Food trucks and stalls offering a variety of eats and drinks
- Live music and bands from 12 noon to 7:30 pm (including the
Cheep Trill Community Choir , INXS and Icehouse Tribute Shows)
- Rides and Side Show Alley (including the giant ferris wheel)
- Markets, kids' workshops/activities, face painting, and buskers
- The Bayfire Fireworks display (in the evening to cap off the main day)
- A mix of chill afternoon sessions and full-day entertainment
Did I mention that the Easter bunny will be dropping by at 11;30 am to say hello to the kids?
And of course, the main attraction will be the flotilla of yachts sailing through Moreton Bay, making their way to Gladstone for the great Queensland open water classic. Embrace the community of Sandgate this Easter and join in the fun of the Bluewater Festival.
Shorncliffe is a coastal suburb in the north-east of Brisbane, about 17 km from the Brisbane CBD. It sits right on Moreton Bay and is known for its seaside views, historic buildings, and long pier.
