Over 5 days, some of the country's best writers creators and literary figures will head to Brisbane to share ideas and discuss their published works in the 2024 Brisbane Writers Festival.
From 30 May to 3 June 2024, one of Brisbane's favourite literary events will offer a smorgasbord of writers, conversations, discussions and workshops where audiences can hear first-hand from the authors about the books they enjoy so much as well as hone their own skills as the next big thing.
This year's Festival is titled, "Have We Got A Story For You" and boy do they ever!
In-person Events
The 2024 Program features an array of outstanding creative figures from music, theatre and literary styles both from Brisbane, Queensland and around the world including:
Brisbane's acclaimed winning author and journalist, Trent Dalton (Boy Swallow Universe, Love Stories and Lola in the Mirror). Note this session has already sold out
Music journalist, Stuart Coupe
New York Times Bestseller, Samantha Shannon
Actor and Author Bryan Brown
Melissa Lucashenko and many many more
Word Play
Wordplay is an education program targeted at students from Prep to Year 12 to celebrate reading, writing and storytelling. The program, which is supported by the University of Queensland, will be held at the State Library of Queensland in the Cultural Forecourt in South Brisbane (opposite Southbank Parklands). Acclaimed children's writer, Morris Gleitzman will lead a collection of guest presenters leading sessions such as Cultural Storytelling, Having Fun With Stories, Writing Suspense and more.
Sessions will cater for:
Early Grades (Prep to Grade 4)
Middles Grades (Grade 5 - 8)
Older Grades (Grade 9 - 12)
Also, look out for the Microfiction Competition open to Queensland-based students to write a piece of no more than 120 words with cash prizes on offer.
Love Ya
Events in this Program are designed around Young Adult Fiction. Events will be held at the Brisbane Square Library in George Street, Brisbane City.
There are also workshops for writers to help you start and complete your very own literary masterpiece.
Tickets range from $15 (for students) to $25 (for adults) and can be purchased online through the BWF website.
On-line Events
if you can't make it to the festival, there are also online events including the Author-Illustrator series.
While celebrating other people's books, the festival will also be releasing its own book celebrating the 60 years of the festival from its early days at the Brisbane Warana Festival.

The Brisbane Writers Festival will be held in various locations across Brisbane including the State Library of Queensland, The Old Museum and the Brisbane Square Library. A range of ticketing options are available for specific events and multi-day passes.
