Join the movement to keep our beaches beautiful, our parks pristine, and our streets sparkling! Be part of Clean Up Australia Day on 1 March 2026, and help make a real difference in your community by reducing rubbish and protecting our environment.
For 35 years,
Clean Up Australia Day has been a community-led initiative, bringing people together to remove waste and rubbish from our urban and natural environments. Volunteers are coming out in growing numbers 2014from Mareeba to Mt Isa in Queensland, and from Coober Pedy to Port Hedland in Western Australia 2014demonstrating the nationwide commitment to a cleaner, healthier environment.
It all began with one simple 2014but enormously impactful 2014idea by Ian Kiernan in Sydney: What if everyone pitched in to clean up, one bag at a time? You can get involved by choosing from three (3) categories to focus your collection efforts:

We know our environments are heavily polluted but just how big is the problem? Well, the stats really tell the story of discarded waste in our communities. During Clean Up Australia Day, over 16,500 tonnes of rubbish were collected across the country, with plastics being the most commonly collected item, making up 81% of the rubbish. This event has seen participation from over 800,000 volunteers in recent years.
To help you on your collection adventure, you will receive a kit and be able to access the Clean Up Australia digital resources and guides to run a great team-building activity. If you are unable to join in the clean-up, you might like to donate to the cause, which is another important way to help.
