Coochiemudlo Island, welcomes visitors and locals to join in the fun of the Pirate Day Markets for a morning of treasure ahoy the island home in the middle of Moreton Bay, south of Brisbane.
The Markets will run for just over four hours from 9 am to 1:30 pm on 17 September 2023 on the foreshore of Main Beach and is offering a trunk load of treasure with golden and hearty activities for everyone.
Once arriving on the island and checking by the Registration Tent, you can make your way through the boutique market stalls featuring a trove of local arts, food and drinks, handcrafted jewellery, garments, and more made by island artisans. The young pirates will have loads of fun too with coloring and rock painting. Bring your eye patches as there will be prizes for the best-dressed little pirates.
Where is Coochie Mudlo Island?
Historically the name of the island was 'Goochie mudlo' for 'red earth' and 'rock' or 'stone' (also recorded as 'kutchi mudlo') and later became 'Coochiemudlo' as it is known today. Coochiemudlo Island is known by locals as Coochie, and is a small, picturesque 5sq km sub-tropical island fringed by bushland is just a short passenger ferry or vehicle ferry ride from Victoria Point. Being an island, Coochiemudlo is only accessible by water.
Amity Trader's Ferries run every 30 minutes all day, every day, from early morning to late in the evening. Tickets are sold on board. Adult tickets are $5.00 per trip, children and concession $2.50 per trip.
