From humble beginnings helping lift community spirits during hard farming years, the Goomeri Pumpkin Festival has grown into a lively celebration of all things pumpkin and it is back and rolling into 2026 this May.



Honouring the Gympie region’s proud farming heritage, the Festival now attracts thousands who come for the fun, flavour and famous country atmosphere.

The Great Pumpkin Roll
And it wouldn't be the Festival without the delightfully quirky traditions — the Great Pumpkin Roll at the Goomeri Pumpkin Festival!

Every year, the quiet country town of Goomeri transforms into a cheering, pumpkin-powered playground as competitors take part in the legendary Great Australian Pumpkin Roll. The challenge? Simple… and slightly ridiculous.



Contestants carry a real pumpkin to the top of Policeman’s Hill, line up at the starting point, and then — with crowds counting down — send their pumpkins racing downhill. What follows is pure entertainment as pumpkins bounce, zigzag, spin wildly and sometimes spectacularly explode before reaching the finish.

The goal is speed, survival, and bragging rights. The fastest pumpkin to make it down the hill intact earns championship glory, while spectators enjoy laughter, cheers and plenty of “did you see that?!” moments.



And there are some handsome prizes up for grabs, too:

PRIZES
Open (All Ages) Champion: $5,000 cash, trophy, rosette, & perpetual plaque on GAPR Honour Roll
Runner-Up: $500 cash and rosette
Junior Prizes (Best performed 12 years & under)
Champion: $500 cash, trophy, rosette, & perpetual plaque on GAPR Honour Roll
Runner-Up: $100 cash : Rosette
Lucky Spot: $10,000 cash will be awarded to any whole pumpkin that lands and stays on the 'Lucky Spot' until the conclusion of the Great Australian Pumpkin Roll.

But the Festival is much more than just its headline event — it’s a full day of country celebration and community fun! Visitors can also enjoy:

Get ready to roll at the Goomeri Pumpkin Festival this May from 8 am. Goomeri is located along the Burnett Highway, approximately 270 km north-west of Brisbane and 80 km west of Gympie. When it is not hosting a Festival, pumpkins grown around Goomeri are supplied to Queensland produce markets, Supermarkets across Australia and Regional wholesalers.
