The stately official working residence of the Queensland Governor, Government House , will be open to the public on Saturday, 7 June 2025, for a chance to see inside one of Brisbane's grandest architectural buildings.**



Named Fernberg ( taken from the German word for Distant Mountain), Queensland's Government purchased the House in 1911. It is one of the oldest houses in the inner city suburb of Paddington.

The FREE, family-friendly event will feature house tours, garden tours (including a beautiful collection of roses), and children’s activities. Go behind the scenes and visit the rooms of the House, such as the Investiture House, the State Dining Room and the Billiards Room. Did you know that Queen Elizabeth 2 even stayed at Government House during one of her Royal visits to Australia?



Outside, experience the rich sounds of the Champion brass band, Brisbane Excelsior , who will be playing in the grounds of Government House alongside the magnificent Queensland Irish Association Pipe Band, which will also be joining them.



Perhaps bring a picnic rug to gather on the lawns of the Estate, enjoy the music and take in the wonderful city views from the House and the expansive 14 hectares of the mature Estate.

This landmark building will be open from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Free street parking is available in the surroundings of the neighbourhood. No bookings are required for this all-ages event. The Open Day coincides with Queensland Day on 6 June, which is the official birthday of the State of Queensland and the day when the new colony of Queensland was established.

Government House in Brisbane is located at 168 Fernberg Road, Paddington, 3 kilometres from the Brisbane Central Business District.
