A free initiative by the Brisbane City Council

As winter approaches, it is the perfect time to snuggle up under the covers and get stuck into a good book. The Brisbane City Council libraries have launched an initiative to encourage you to share story time with your little ones.

Reading with your child is an important job as it sparks their imagination and develops early literacy skills. The Little Stars and Gold Stars Reading program provides an opportunity to develop this further, whilst bonding with your child.

The Little Stars (0-5 years) and Gold Stars (6-12 years) Reading Club runs from May until July 2018, and culminates in an awards ceremony for your little reader.

Children simply fill in their booklet with the books they have read, and return to the library to collect their stars. Each month, readers are rewarded with small gifts such as a library bag or a disc of nursery rhymes to sing a long to at home.

Getting involved is as simple as visiting your local Brisbane City Council library and signing your child up for a library card. You will then be issued with a booklet to record your little one favourite books for the month. There are also monthly draws for book vouchers to enter in to just for participating.

Whilst you are at the library, why not take advantage of the other activities on offer such as Baby, books and Rhymes, story time or school holiday activities. Afterwards, many venues also offer a cafe for you to enjoy a coffee or meet up with friends.
