King George Square will be the beacon of Christmas in the river city and Brisbane's official
Christmas Tree will illuminate the streets of the Central Business District. The Brisbane
tree has been a city tradition since it was first installed in 1954.
The Women's Auxiliary of the Queensland National Gallery Society believed that
" a large ornament-laden display in front of City Hall would bring Brisbane into conformity with similar decorations in cities abroad, such as Trafalgar Square in London” and may encourage residents to participate in the festive season.
Today, the tradition continues. You can see the 22-metre tall tree glisten and shine to start Christmas celebrations in Brisbane from 6:30pm to 8:00pm at
King George Square in Adelaide Street, Brisbane City.
It wouldn't be Christmas unless Santa and his helpers came along and a special music performance. Singer
Dylan Wright will be bringing some tunes.
This free, family-friendly event is suitable for all ages. - so join in the fun and be a part of this Brisbane Christmas tradition.
