Located in the stunning Scenic Rim, QLD,
Oaky Creek Farm and Harvest Cafe is an excellent destination for a Sunday family day trip. It also conducts dirt-loving one-off events like the
Farm Gate Trail coming up on the 2nd of April 2023, from 8 am to 4 pm.
Plug 208 Oaky Creek Rd, Oaky Creek QLD into your GPS and off you go. Roughly an hour and a half from either the Gold Coast or Brisbane, it is a pleasurable drive through some pretty countryside. There are numerous parks and playgrounds you can stop at along the way if you so desire. When you arrive, you will be treated to a place that welcomes you as if you are one of the family. It is a very laidback type of venue with rustic outdoor seating, a chance to get dirty with the pigs, a children's homestyle playground and great country food. The menu is not extensive but you don't need that when you are looking for tasty meals that keep all of the family full of smiles. The food utilises local ingredients produced on the farm or from nearby suppliers so you can be assured it is fresh and full of all the good stuff.
My kids and I made the trip out there for one of their events. The car parking is generous and close to the cafe. Yet don't be fooled into thinking your venture will be a quiet affair. If you want quiet times, then I suggest you go on a day that does not involve an event as their special features tend to draw a crowd near and far. They sell gourmet delights and fresh produce. Their Garlic, Rosemary, and Chilli Salts seem to fetch a decent price and can actually be purchased online, along with their garlic, limes, and ginger.
The kids were treated to a gorgeous sunny day which meant the view over the farm was worth the many "are we there yet?" calls on the way out in the car. We fed the pigs and spent time together climbing up and down the inclines across the land and surrounding gardens. Lunch was a mix of healthy and naughty treats but given the amount of walking we did, I'm certain the extra calories came off. The kids enjoyed the mini-kitchen in the playground and made some friends. Be warned that pushing a pram around these parts isn't that fun so a baby carrier is a much better idea.
If you are looking for a wholesome family adventure and the chance to get back to basics, this one is for you. If you are keen on the Farm Trail on the 2nd of April, plan to head out early to avoid the line-up in the cafe and know that come midday you will have a lot of company. Who doesn't love a great day on the farm?
