The annual Brisbane Festival always lights up the city with a 3-week program of Arts and Cultural events. In 2024, the festival will feature 3 light based spectaculars to bring even more nighttime colour to the river city.
Riverfire Fireworks
When you think of the Brisbane Festival and light shows, it all starts with
Riverfire . In 2024, Brisbane's biggest fireworks spectacular, Riverfire, will bring another dazzling display of pyrotechnic colour and noise to the skies of Brisbane on
Saturday 31 August 2024.
Over three and a half hours of
FREE family-friendly activities, the entertainment of Riverfire will start at 4pm and the fireworks lead with a bang at 7pm to mark the official start of the
Brisbane Festival . Of course, Southbank Parklands is the main viewing spot along its riverbanks, but there are many other places here where you can see and hear the boom and sparkles of the show. Howard Smith Wharves, Kangaroo Point Cliffs and New Farm riverwalks offer a fabulous view. For a more distant city view, Mount Cootha lookout is a must-do.
If you can't make it to the event, you can watch the show for free on the sponsors, Channel 9 and listen to the soundtrack on Triple M radio station.
A favourite part of the Show is the aerial display show of aircraft by the Australian Defence Force (ADF) which return in 2024.
Skylore
Skylore - The Rainbow Serpent is a three-dimensional multicolour drone show which runs from 19 to 21 September 2024. Head to the Festival Garden in South Bank at 186 Little Street South Brisbane or at Queen's Wharf in the CBD to see an incredible 400 drones spin and weave over Brisbane’s night-lit skyline with a spectacular storytelling of The Rainbow Serpent. The Serpent is recognised by the First Nations for giving life as well as creating and destroying nature, particularly in relation to water. Learn more about this historical, cultural story through the visual imagery of lights.
Skylore is a free, family-friendly, non-ticketed event.
Lightscape
The light installation display, "Lightscape" will shine in the Brisbane City Botanic Gardens from 29 August to 12 October 2024. The botanic foliage and flower features of the gardens become the backdrop for the glowing lights. Walk through the magically lit trail along a 1.8km path through the gardens. Filtered with lights will be the magnificent tree canopies, installations of larger-than-life flowers, alongside shining neon roots, and glowing tunnels.
Visits to Lightscape are timed in 15-minute intervals starting at 5:45pm onwards. The last entry onto the trail will be 10 minutes after the final advertised timeslot.
Each event day, the City Botanic Gardens will close at 4:30pm and open to Lightscape audiences from 5:45pm onwards. Tickets range from $24 to $46.
