Have you taken the family to SEA LIFE on the Sunshine Coast? I hadn't until recently. I had already taken them to Sea World on the Gold Coast and naively believed we'd seen it all. We hadn't and it was well worth the trip. Funnily enough, my three munchkins now call SEA LIFE "The Real Sea World".

Located an hour north of Brisbane in the gorgeous wharfside location of Mooloolaba, SEA LIFE offers a single entry ticket price to cover all attractions. With eleven themed locations throughout the park, this is an all-weather adventure involving shark-filled tunnels, penguin encloses, seals swimming over your head, and a myriad of incredibly lit marine tanks that will cause your camera to go into meltdown. You can probably tell from the photos attached to this article that I took a LOT of photos and love them.

Surrounded by loads of places to lunch, and right next to a huge car park, SEA LIFE is great for families with toddlers as it is pram-friendly and easy to walk. Keep in mind this carpark services much more than SEA LIFE so don't be surprised if you arrive and have to drive around a few laps to find a park. Patience is the key. Given its location, space is a priority for SEA LIFE and so it differs significantly from Sea World as it is in a multilevel building and all indoors. This makes it great for sun-sensitive families and elderly family members who wish to join you. The ramps that lead up or down throughout the building are all carpeted meaning they are great for traction. There is a touch tank where the kids can feel some starfish and anemones, and seal and penguin feeding shows that are quite intimate. The shark tunnel, complete with red and blue smoke lighting effects was a big winner with my brave and adventurous kids.

There is a cute indoor playground for when mums need to have a break and kids need to burn some additional fuel. The playground is located near the cafe seating area. Please note you can take your own food into SEA LIFE and respect that the cafe is not open at all times. This isn't a real issue as if you get there early enough you will be finished by lunchtime. You can then head to the excellent eateries surrounding The Wharf. The souvenir shop is similar to all of these places in that it sells stuffed fish, sharks, and seals at exaggerated prices, yet has a good range of smaller items for families who want to buy something without breaking the bank.

I recommend buying your tickets online as the queue outside can be very daunting during school holidays and on weekends. The last thing you need is to waste half your morning lining up. Tickets are also $37.60 online per adult versus $47 at the door. If you go on a weekday you can take advantage of the $35 Parent & Child Ticket which will save you some well-earned cash. There are additional penguin, shark, and seal experiences you can purchase allowing you to get up close and personal. Utilise the website to find out more about these experiences.

If you live on the Gold Coast, head to SEA LIFE these holidays. If you live in Brisbane, head to SEA LIFE these holidays. If you live on the Sunshine Coast, well I think you can guess what I recommend.....
