Celebrate the Irish tradition of St Patrick's Day with a series of family-friendly events across the country this March.

St Patrick's Day is an annual celebration (sometimes known as the Feast of Saint Patrick, which is a religious and cultural holiday held on 17 March, the traditional death date of Saint Patrick, the foremost patron saint of Ireland.

Both in Ireland and around the world, individuals and communities gather to acknowledge this event, enjoy a Guinness or two and appreciate everything which is Irish.

Here are just some of the events to help you join in the fun whether you are Irish or just Irish at heart.



Brisbane


The annual St Patrick's Day Street Parade will be on bringing the green on Saturday 16th March at 10:30 am. Cheer from the sidewalks and watch the floats, music and dancing in this FREE event as the parade starts and ends along Alice Street, in the Central Business District (near the City Botanic Gardens).

The parade began in 1989 has has gone from strength to strength with over 700 participants. This year's parade theme will be Irish Myths and Legends.

You can also enjoy an ale at one of Brisbane's Irish-themed pubs such as Finn McCools, Gilhooleys Irish Pub or Irish Murphys.

The Orion Hotel - Springfield will be holding a St Patrick's Day weekend with food specials and Irish beers on tap available from Friday, March 15 - Sunday, March 17 2024. Enjoy the tunes with live music on March 15 courtesy of Brit Beat Mania who will be performing British hits from the 60s and 70s from 7:30 pm. To finish off the weekend, Irish dancers and live music will be pumping out songs from 12pm on Sunday, March 17 2024.

For something different, the St Patrick's Day races will be trackside at the Ipswich Turf Club on 16 March. As well as punting on the races, you can also sample a Guinness Pie or book into The Barn for an Irish-inspired smorgasbord.



Sydney


Sydney will also host a family-friendly walking parade with small vehicles and floats, roving performers, Irish dancing groups, pipe bands and local community groups. Watch the parade from First Fleet Park, George Street The Rocks.

Prior to the parade, look out for the S. Patrick's Day Lunch on Friday 15th March 2024 at the ICC, Sydney.



Melbourne


The Patrick's Day Festival will be overtaking St Kilda on the 16th and 17th March. On Saturday, 16th March, the free family events run from 10.00am - 6.00pm in O'Donnell Gardens with live music and a parade. The family event is open to families, tourists, backpackers and any other members or residents of the local community who want to join us in celebrating Irish heritage.

Activities and entertainment throughout the day include:
  • Roving Entertainers
  • Irish Dancing
  • Parade
  • Dog Show
  • Live Music and Beer Garden (adults only)

  • The next day is one for the adults with a ticketed event from 12.00pm - 9.00pm featuring an international Irish band and local live performers and artists,

  • Irish International Live Music Artists
  • Food and Beer Gardens
  • Workshops
  • Roving Entertainers

  • O'Donnell Gardens are located at Carlisle Street, St Kilda.

    So whichever event you choose, don't forget to dress for the day with a splash or green to show your support for the St Patrick's Day tradition.
