Combining, art, culture, surf and sand, the Swell Sculpture Festival will offer a free public outdoor art Exhibition on the soft white sands of Queensland's Currumbin Beach on the beautiful Gold Coast.
The Gold Coast beach of Currumbin is a tourism mecca being home to the popular Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary but its attraction will take an artistic form for 10 days during September's annual Swell Sculpture Festival. There is nothing quite like the Swell, where 60 large-scale, original sculptured artworks are displayed on the beach, its surrounding area and pop-ups across the Gold Coast. And the good thing is the festival is largely FREE for everyone to see and experience.
The Swell Sculpture Festival runs from 6 to 16 September 2024, and features sculptures from local and international artists, live music, and workshops for everyone over the 10 days. Just some of the artists contributing stunning and thought-provoking works to this year's festival are:
Amelia Butcher
Chelsea Jewell and Lllama
Clayton Blake
Elery Jones
Jordache Gage
(Be sure to check out the program for a full listing)
Since its beginning in 2003, Swell Sculpture has become a centrepiece of creative display. Not content with the beach display, the festival program goes beyond the sands with specialty events and activities for the whole family.
Swell Kids
The festival hasn't forgotten the little artists and has child-friendly activities for kids to try. Scavenger hunts, colouring competitions, a pop-up library and author readings, a seedling planter workshop, Court Games with ARC Circus and more will keep the kids engaged. There are also school workshops available.
Swell Wellness
Activities focussed on your mind, body, and spirit will have you in the best space to enjoy the Festival. Join in the yoga, roller-skating, breathwork, pilates, running classes and activities which are low cost or free.
Swell Fringe
Get social at Swell by attending Art panels, pop-up bars, live music, sing-a-longs, drag queen trivia, the People's Art Party ( an afternoon of art, food and drinks.) and more.
Awards
The festival will award prizes from $500 to $15 000 across a series of Art categories for the sculptures such as the People's Choice Award, Peer Award and Indigenous Artist Award.
