The 'Enchanted Forest' Playground at Dorrington Park, Ashgrove

by reread (follow)
This beautiful park is called the Enchanted Forest for good reason

If you're looking for a lovely, shady park where you can also get your caffeine hit, Dorrington Park or 'The Enchanted Forest' playground as it's more commonly known, is definitely a winner. Just off Frasers Road in Ashgrove, this cute little park is a popular spot for catch-ups and play dates.

The park is filled with very large leopard trees (hence its nickname), which not only provide great, shaded areas, but also drop heaps of seed pods which are great fun to collect, stack and 'post' in the mailbox.

"Posting" seed pod mail!

In the middle of the park is a 'fairy ring' of toadstools - press the button and they play music and tell a story. My toddler's mad keen on pressing the button, the story, however, he'll take or leave! There are quite a few other brightly coloured climbing forts and various play equipment, which I would say is more suited for children aged five and under.

The most important feature of this park is the coffee radius! It's close- just a short two minute walk from the playground is 'Famished on Frasers', a cafe which is not only open from 7am, seven days a week, but they also serve up a great cup of coffee!

Other important, less caffeinated features of Dorrington Park include onsite toilets, a partly fenced play area and plenty of large grassy areas adjacent to the park, perfect for running, flying kites or ball games. As well as shelters and a BBQ, there is also lots of bench seating within the park - so you can plonk yourself down and drink your coffee whilst your toddler brings you "avocado toast" from the play cafe!

Running to the loo with a kite!

There is a car park just off Fraser Road and if you head to the playground before 10am on a weekday, you'll be sure to get a spot. Don't fret however if you can't find a space, there's plenty of on street parking to utilise during busy periods or on the weekend.
