Are you strong enough to pull a tram with your bare hands? Gather a team and get along to the Great Brisbane Tram Pull to find out.



An annual spectacular of brute strength, sheer tenacity and a little insanity returns to Brisbane this September as the Great Brisbane Tram Pull.

In what has become a yearly challenge, teams of 4 to 6 people with use all their skills and courage in an attempt to fulfil a real-life tram. That's right!

If merely moving this beast of vehicle is not enough, prizes are up for grabs as well as bragging rights.

The contest is all part of the Tramways Museum Open Day on 22 September 2024. The Museum is a volunteer-run museum, which provides for people interested in any phase of the history or operation of tramways may get together for education, enjoyment and entertainment.



The History of Trams in Brisbane
Trams once were a central part of the Brisbane public transport network in the city and suburbs between 1885 and 1969. Up until the end of World War 1, trams were the primary means for moving about the city. As the city and transport changed by 1948 Brisbane's trams failed to return a profit as they could not compete with the more efficient bus services.



Another significant incident in the life of the trams was the unfortunate and untimely Paddington Tram Depot Fire on 28 September 1962 where 67 trams were destroyed, which represented 20% of the entire fleet.

What Else
Entry to the open day costs at $10 for Adults and $5 for under 16-year-olds. This includes entry to the Tramway Museum, watching the tram pull exhibition and watching the Twilight movie screening of Wonka.

The Museum opens at 4 pm, the tram pull is scheduled to start at 4:45 pm and the movie starts at 6 pm.

The Brisbane Tramway Museum is located at 20 Tramway Street Ferny Grove Brisbane. Ferny Grove is situated in the north of Brisbane, x kilometres from the Brisbane Central Business District.
