The Plantation Aquatic Centre, Gumdale

by Sophie Cannon (follow)
The past few weeks have been unbearably hot here in Brisbane and in this weather it can be hard to build up the enthusiasm to leave the house and the cool confines of our air con and be outdoors.

This past weekend we braved the heat with our son and we headed to The Plantation Aquatic Centre in Gumdale, a local, small scale water park and swimming centre that has heaps to offer the whole family.

The Plantation Aquatic Centre has a cluster of four seperate pool areas - an indoor heated pool which is used for swim lessons, an outdoor 25m pool which can be used by all for water activities and laps for the more experienced swimmers and also two water activity pools which are perfect for younger children.

The main kids play pool has two water slides and a small wave area as well as the much loved raining mushrooms and the best part? The water here doesn't reach over a metre in depth and is perfect for younger children when supervised by parents. In addition to this there is the toddler water park section which has a maximum depth of 0.3m and features a kids play centre with multiple slides, walking bridge and climbing areas.

There are heaps of grassy areas, picnic tables and space around the pools, perfect for parents to sit and supervise and there are also beach volleyball and tennis courts on site for hire. Looking to host a child's birthday? The centre has shaded picnic areas and pergolas for party hire, BBQs are available for use and hot and cold food and drinks can be purchased from the centre kiosk.

Kids had enough of the water? There is also a dry play park for kids to use which features a range of slides, climbing frames and walking bridges making it easy to spend a whole day at the Plantation without having to be in the water for hours on end.

After only hearing about the centre from others, I was pleasantly surprised at how well set out the The Plantation was and how perfect it was for my four year old son who had a blast on the day. I'm not the most comfortable with my kids around water so knowing that the depths only reached a certain level put me at ease as well as the fact that all of the sections were heavily monitored by staff.

It's important to remember that this is still a public pool and even though there is small entry cost the facilities, such as change rooms, toilets etc aren't going to be to the same standard as the bigger Gold Coast water parks, saying that though I had no issues with what was on offer and would definitely visit again.

The Plantation is located at 1204 New Cleveland Road
Gumdale Qld 4154 and is open 8.30am-5.00pm Monday to Friday and 9.00am-5.00pm on weekends from September to May.
