The Story
Created in 1969 by British writer Eric Carle,
The Very Hungry Caterpillar is a staple in bedrooms and school libraries around the world. It follows the adventures of a newly hatched caterpillar as it eats its way through all kinds of food before transforming into a beautiful butterfly. The story continues to be a favourite, having sold over 55 million copies.
In an example of just how hungry the caterpillar is, the book reads:
On Saturday, he ate through one piece of chocolate cake, one ice-cream cone, one pickle, one slice of Swiss cheese, one slice of salami, one lollipop, one piece of cherry pie, one sausage, one cupcake, and one slice of watermelon. That night he had a stomach ache.” From this moment comes life lessons about making choices and moderation.

Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? Ten Little Rubber Ducks, and
The Very Busy Spider.
