Imagination play for the kids and great food and drink for the adults.
I can't believe I had not stumbled upon this inner-city gem before today! Located in Herston, at the [Link https://victoriapark.com.au/ Victoria Park Golf Club], is this wonderful, imagination plus playground and bistro.
Victoria Park Bistro
We arrived at about 9:30 and had the whole fenced playground to ourselves! We headed next door to the bistro first, grabbed a coffee and then opted to sit on the benches within the play area.
If you'd prefer to visit the playground after your coffee or breakfast, however, then make sure to sit out on the Bistro's patio which has an amazing view of the city, or on one of the lounges in the beautiful courtyard.
The courtyard area with cool cane lounges.
As mentioned, the play area is not only fenced, but is also built upon soft fall wood chips, and there's a definite theme of 'pretend play' running throughout. The fence encloses the playground bar the entry, which is a ramp for accessibility.
The best feature of the playground is the huge raised cubby house which has a play kitchen, two small slides and an undercover basement filled with tool boxes and trucks.
There is also a rock wall, climbing net and chalkboards to enjoy, so remember to pack some chalk for the day.
Under the fort, toolboxes, and chalkboards.
Carrying on with the imagination theme, the park is home to a tractor - a real one, just like on a farm! My toddler spent ages on the tractor changing gears and "turning left". There is also a rowboat with oars in case the kids wish to "set sail".
The huge raised fort and tractor - complete with moving gear stick!
Although the playground is not shaded, there are quite a few surrounding trees, and we (the mums) managed to stay seated in the shade for the whole 2.5 hours we were there, however, make sure to pack sunscreen just in case!
On weekends, Victoria Park often has a jumping castle and other kids activities going on and if you have older children they may be interested in a game of the parks famous putt-putt!

There are full toilet facilities located within the bistro and the golf club has its own car park with plenty of spaces. If you are looking to visit the playground/bistro then make sure to drive in from Herston Road and follow the signs for 'bistro parking'. All in all, Victoria Park is a great day out - we'll definitely be back!
