Calling all adventure seekers and daredevils! Do you want to swing from the roof, climb mountains, get swallowed by a foam pit, eat good pizza, and party until every muscle hurts? If this is you (or your kids), I have the perfect place for your next birthday get-together. It's called Area 51 and is located at Underwood, QLD, meaning it is an option for both Gold Coast and Brisbane families.

We were recently invited to a birthday event at Area 51 and had not heard of it before. We had no expectations except birthday cake and so we were amazed at the size of this venue and its facilities. There is rock climbing, huge slides, rooftop climbing, loads of bouncing and pits, multiple cafes, vending machines, a sensory room, an under-two play area, plenty of seating, ten or so party rooms, and the list just goes on. It can be quite overwhelming when you arrive as there are people everywhere at popular party times so if you are attending as a general visitor definitely plan your visit OUTSIDE of these hours. The wait time in reception can be hard with multiple kids in tow but I understand why many parents choose to brave the queues. It really is a great facility.

Tickets are roughly $20 per child for one hour of adventure. Kids require grip socks to participate which are sold at the reception. Armbands note the time slot allocated to each child/party and are policed stringently to ensure that no one gets more time than they paid for. There are height restrictions meaning that younger children are prevented from participating independently in some of the 'up high' events and parents can choose to enjoy the activities with their kids. Good food is available for purchase via the internal cafes and is reasonably priced. There is a range of options from healthy to deep-fried to cater for all types of taste buds.

Party packages cover various themes, grazing platters, adventure types, and loads of options. There is a PDF which covers the two-hour Infinity Pizza Party Package which seems to be one of the most popular choices.

Parties here are a parent's dream. Private rooms, great backdrops, loads to keep everyone happy, a dedicated coordinator to look after party attendees, and good coffee. The coordinator covering our party was great with the kids and escorted the girls on their adventures. From the looks of things, partying here is a popular thing to do so I would suggest booking your spot well in advance. Parking can be a little crazy outside as the car park is shared with a number of other venues and while it is a huge space, it fills up very fast. I would also strongly emphasise safety for all and keeping an eye out for many cars going and coming at once, especially with so many kids about.

Another great aspect of this venue is its management and issue-resolution process. To be totally upfront, an issue occurred during our visit where my daughter was prevented from accessing part of her paid visit. This was completely unintentional by staff but nevertheless below expectations. The moment I raised this with management it was dealt with in the most professional and pleasant way. Sometimes the true test of a venue isn't just determined by what goes right but by how problems are also addressed. Five-star tick on the problem-solving front from me.

Mums of Brissie and the Coast, Area 51 should definitely appear on your list of 'How To Wear The Kids Out Fast'. They will sleep well after they have been. Head to 51 Kingston Road, Underwood, QLD.
