Brighter Futures Psychology: Introducing Counsellor Lauren Rooyakkers

Sometimes our young people just need to talk through their issues in these challenging times.

The dynamics of a modern family can be complex and challenging. We are all busier than ever, yet seem to have less support than generations of the past. As parents, we aren’t always equipped to deal with our children and adolescents' emotions, daily struggles and periods of adjustment, trauma or anxiety.

If your family needs a little help with working through some of these challenges, the team at Brighter Futures Psychology has years of experience. With services that include psychology, speech and occupational therapy and counselling, the team can assess, diagnose and treat a number of common conditions.

Newest recruit Lauren Rooyakkers BA (Psych) MA (Counselling) is a registered counsellor who can assist with a range of difficulties young people may experience and offers regular appointments outside school hours. Lauren works with each individual client’s needs to make them feel comfortable and at ease, meeting them where they are at and supporting them to reach their potential.

Lauren has experience working with clients in schools, plus with individuals in the community. Working with each individual client’s needs, Lauren uses a range of approaches that include mindfulness, arts and crafts, dance, drama, play and cognitive behavioural methods.

Just some of the areas she can assist with using evidence-based treatments include:
self-esteem
self-identity
anxiety
emotional regulation difficulties
behavioural issues
life changes and adjustments
bullying
self-harm and thoughts of suicide
relationship difficulties
loss and grief
