Museum of Brisbane

by Sally Foster (follow)
Free family fun in the heart of the city

The Museum of Brisbane is located in the heart of Brisbane City, and with free entry and heaps of public transport options to get there, it is a great cultural day out with the family.

Not to be confused with the Queensland Museum in South Brisbane, the Museum of Brisbane is housed in a beautiful historical Queensland building and you enter via King George Square. Which is currently home to a giant Christmas tree.

The museum is home to art, culture and history, that is brought to life through exhibitions, workshops, tours, talks, special events and a vibrant program of children’s activities. You can even do a free tour of the clock tower, which is an old hand-operated lift, providing a bird’s-eye view of the city. It is a great hit with the little ones who think riding in a lift is the peak of fun.

This school holidays, there are lots of free or low cost activities just for kids through their MoB kids program. These activities include arts and craft, like making Christmas wreaths, tours of the museum just for kids, and even a Summer silent disco. You can find out more about what is going on, and the days things are happening here.

Because the museum is in the heart of the city, there are tons of food options nearby. If you are looking for a really great family friendly restaurant that is only a five minute walk from the museum, then Jamie's Italian is amazing. Great kids menu and they provide kids activities and have a wonderful atmosphere. Plus they validate parking!

Location: Level 3, City Hall, Brisbane City
Getting There: Close by to busses, city cat, train and parking garages.
Opening Hours: Open daily 10am to 5pm and Fridays until 7pm
